We're having our monthly "Tasty Tuesday" at work today, and this time around we made a hoagie bar: everybody brought in different meats, cheese, condiments, etc. for hoagies, and we're building our own sandwiches. (I was in charge of Swiss cheese.) Instead of making a huge hoagie, I decided to make myself a chef salad, using a little bit of everything:
This salad contains a bed of shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, chopped onions, pickled sweet peppers, a sweet gherkin, a dill pickle sandwich slice (off to the right, not really visible in the picture), and then one slice each of imported ham, honey roasted ham, bacon-lover's turkey breast, roast beef, Genoa salami, sweet Lebanon bologna, regular Lebanon bologna, Swiss cheese, American cheese, and smoked Provolone cheese. I used hoagie dressing (oil, vinegar, and spices) instead of another kind of salad dressing. Really tasty, and it leaves room for potato chips and Doritos! (Which I enjoyed only in moderation, pinky swear.)
(I ate a light breakfast -- cereal and milk plus banana -- and I am planning on a smallish dinner, so I splurged and made a smaller second salad out of lettuce, tomato, peppers, honey ham, turkey, roast beef, salami, and Swiss, kinds of pickles, and dressing, and I didn't feel the least bit bad about it, since there are basically zero carbs in this thing.)
One strange / unusual thing about this: a couple of people saw me making a salad, and they liked the idea enough to make salads of their own. It's been a LONG TIME since I was a trendsetter.
