12W12S: W3/W4 Update

Just an update on what I've been eating for the last few days. I find that keeping track of this helps me stay honest. Even though I am not cheating much because I have some cute shorts that I want to fit into for vacation.
  • Saturday (W3D6) -- 2 scrambled eggs with 1 Tbsp. shredded cheddar and ⅓ oz. smoked ham (with Nature's Seasons and chives), 1 slice whole grain toast with margarine, tea.
  • Sunday (W3D7) -- yogurt, granola, pistachios.
  • Monday (W4D1) -- yogurt, granola, pear, pistachios. As part of W4S4 festivities, cut back to 12 oz. can of Mountain Dew. Accelerated W5S5 by adding a serving of veggies at lunchtime: ¾ c. baby carrots with 1 Tbsp. ranch dressing.
  • Tuesday (W4D2) -- bagel, ½ Tbsp. cream cheese, grapes, tea, string cheese, ⅓ oz. smoked ham, pistachios. Lunchtime veggies: 1 cup grape tomatoes.
I am not doing as well with my water as I would like, but I keep working on it. I have been drinking water after dinner, while we're watching TV. As far as everything else goes, I feel pretty good. Not sure if I am actually losing weight, but I feel better about what I am eating, which is a good thing as far as I am concerned. On Sunday night we actually voluntarily ate a salad for dinner -- with fancy Italian bread, made with whole grains! -- but of course we did that so we could snack during the "Lost" finale.

My biggest complaints so far are that I have to do a lot of advance planning, since I pack my lunch now (i.e., I have to buy fruits and vegetables in advance, and sometimes I'm just not in the mood for apples now that we have them, you know?), and also that I am getting bored with yogurt and bagels. I'm going to try to spruce things up later with cereal or maybe oatmeal -- when was the last time someone ate oatmeal for excitement? -- but it's a lot faster to throw a lunch together when there are only a couple of options.

  1. i agree that the fewer options, the easier. you could try cheerios or raisin bran. (not very exciting either, but different.) and not that i've ever tried it, but i heard eating a salad for breakfast is quite liberating. you get a lot of your "required" servings of vegetables out of the way right away, and you just in general feel good.

  2. ooooh! we have raisin bran in the cupboard. i haven't had raisin bran in a while. now i know what i'm having tomorrow!

and re: salad for breakfast -- if i ever happen to have the stuff around, i like to have omelets with spinach and other veggies. not EXACTLY a salad, but close (since i like hard-boiled eggs in my salad).

i can see how a spinach salad with strawberries and mandarin oranges would be delicious at breakfast time. maybe with some cinnamon-sugar croutons, if you can figure out how to make them. (hmm, project ...?)
